Searching Instructions

1) Keyword Search

This is the easiest and most complete method of searching and will produce the broadest and most generalized list of results.

To search by keyword, enter a word or words that identify the subject or record which you are looking for. EXAMPLE: By entering the word "deed" you will pull up a list containing all records that contain the word "deed" in any part of that record.

Keywords used must be complete or entire words. For example: Searching the word " war" will not pull up any record containing that word as a portion of another word, such as "warranty" or "warrants." Searching the word "grant" will result in a list of records containing the word "grant" only. It will not show results for records with the word "grantee" or "grantor".

Be aware when performing multi word searches, you will get results for each words individually as if you searched them separately. EXAMPLE: a search of "Civil War" will bring up not only "Civil war" records, but all records that contain the word "civil" and/or "war" in them.

2) Specify/Narrow Keyword Search
You may narrow your search by selecting a municipality from the drop down box and/or by entering a date or date span.

The result will be a list of records for that municipality or date span or any combination using the criteria you entered.

3) Other Search Strategies
You can also search by series title, government (municipality), or date (starting, ending or both)

When entering dates use the MM/DD/YYYY format (ie. 03/30/2001) MM is the 2 character month in the range from 01- 12 DD is the 2 character day in the range from 01-31 YYYY is the 4 character year ranging to 9999 which represents an ongoing record series

To clear the fields and perform a new search simply click on "Search" at the top of the page.

4) To obtain more information such as the record custodians' names, phone numbers, fax numbers, email addresses, hours of operation and addresses, etc., search the "Contact" page.
